JO CHRISTIE, Principal
Jo is a Fellow of the Ballet Faculty of the International Dance Teachers Association and a Royal Academy of Dance Mutually Recognised Teacher. She holds a Licentiate qualification for the Freestyle branch and an Associate qualification for the Tap, Modern Jazz and Theatre Craft branches as well as the Gymnastic Dance Diploma (watch this space as further qualifications are being added all the time).
Jo started dancing at the age of 4, intending to follow in her parents footsteps in the Ballroom branch but at the age of 10 was sent to ballet school by her Primary School teacher. For 12 years she studied at the Rose Marriott School of Dancing in Sheffield, at the age of 13 was a resident dancer on ITV's Junior Showtime and a member of Douggie Squire's New Generation, at 15 was a Grand Finalist for the Butlins Talent Competition held at the London Palladium and at 19 worked in Floor Shows and Cabarets in London and the South East as a Contortionist and Cabaret Dancer before joining a cruise ship.
Homesickness set in though and Jo returned to Sheffield to do her teacher training at the Constance Grant Dance Centre with Judith Silvester, whilst working at Midland Bank to pay the bills. A relocation with the bank to London saw Jo furthering her dance training with Yvonne Gout and the Alberta School of Dance and Drama whilst working for several dance schools as a free lance teacher until she opened her own school in 1991.
Jo is married to "Mr" Andy who helps out with the running of the School when needed, she has a step daughter Alison married to James, (they have given her 2 granddaughters "Olivia Grace" and "Amelie Alice") and a daughter Sarah who is Marketing Manager for Windmill Feeds and Saddlery.
New to the teaching staff in 2011, watch this space for more info!
JESS SHORT, Freelance
Jess commenced her dance training at the Dance Centre in September 1997, gained a place at The Brit School where she did A level and BTec Dance. She then went to Roehampton University to study a degree in Dance & Sport and Exercise Science.
She returned to the Dance School in January 2006 to continue her dance training and became a valued member of staff. She is an Associate Member of the Freestyle branch and has Pre Associate Tap Parts 1 and 2 under her belt. Currently working for her Associate Tap qualification, she recently added an Exercise to Music Diploma.
Jess also owns Extreme Exercise, a pole fitness group based in Kent and Sussex. Her hobbies are shopping, eating chocolate, socialising and having fun!
SUE FULLER, Tap
Sue joined the staff in 2004. She runs her own busy school in Eastbourne and helps us out because she loves us! Sue likes to be known as the "Tap Queen" as it’s her favourite subject.
She is also known "affectionately" as "Scary Sue", although the only reason for that is because she doesn't let the student teachers get away with anything and keeps them in their place. (Ask Rebecca Hyland - she will fill you in).
Sue is divorced, with 2 children and 2 grand children.
Janice is a "retired" dance teacher and spent many years acting before opening the Janice Blake School of Dance in Bexhill. Retired from running her own school but more than happy to help others, Janice is a regular visitor to the school, helping out when required.
Gaia Hancock, Hannah Martin and Rebecca King
Any student over the age of 13 can apply to join the student teacher scheme but they must attend at least 1 ballet class per week. Applications should be made in writing to the Principal who will then arrange an interview with the student and their parents.
